Weight loss update, Kombucha edition

So, I weighed myself this morning, that’s a full week underneath 505 pounds! First time in almost 5 years, and I can feel a difference. 130 pounds in just over a year is a lot, and while it helps when I go to walk, I’m still finding the loose skin more of a hindrance than even the fat was. It hangs funny and is painful when it sticks together, but I just need to keep my eye on the prize!

I also started adding Kombucha to my diet about six weeks ago. Been home brewing, and I can definitely say it helps. For those that don’t know, Kombucha is tea fermented for a week to a month with a scoby (Symbiotic culture of bacteria and yeast). It’s the most well behaved pet I have, and it’s easy to keep up. I just drink a half a cup every morning when I wake up.

The taste is slightly fruity, slightly vinegary, and slightly fizzy. You can buy Scoby cultures online, just google Kombucha starting kits, and they’ll pop right up. I got lucky and had a friend that was brewing it right as I started to research it.

Ingredients:

1 bag green tea

1 bag oolong tea

3 bags black tea

1 gallon water

1 cup sugar (Honey or Brown sugar can be substituted, but be warned it changes the rate of the brew. Research before you try this.

1 GLASS jar with lid (Must be glass, the scoby will try to eat the plastic.)

1 Scoby

Brew up your tea, and add the sugar. Let it cool to room tempature. Place into glass jar, top with Scoby.

You need to make sure your hands are VERY clean when you do this, as it is a culture of bacteria. Still, I do notice a difference, and can tell it’s leaching toxins from my body as well as helping my guts. So don’t be afraid to try new things, you never know what will come into your life that will help you with your daily journey.
