and the last one. Hey there! I understand this is sort of off-topic but I needed to ask. Does running a well-established blog such as yours take a lot of work? I’m brand new to operating a blog however I do write in my journal on a daily basis. I’d like to start a blog so I can share my personal experience and thoughts online. Please let me know if you have any kind of suggestions or tips for brand new aspiring blog owners. Appreciate it!

Thank you Diane for driving more spambots to my blog. They fill me with laughter, which of course, is the best medicine.

Another great resource for those just starting out in a writing career.

So, I was doing some purusing around some of the other blogs that have followed me the past few days, and came across Dean McSmith’s site. He has a page for writing tools and such, and one of them was an online app called Hemingway.

I’m constantly on the lookout for things to help writers on the cheap, and I think this may be one of those tools. It’s not going to make your content spectacular, it’s not going to make you sound super intelligent, but paired with the lessons we authors learn as we go, I found it to be a very good tool for initial edits. I put a science fiction work I’ve been working on through it, and it does quite a bit. It does a good job of pointing out complex sentences, adverbs, and passive use of voice. It even offers suggestions as to how many should be in your work (Though I do tend to ignore norms like that.)

As stated before, this isn’t going to turn you into a rock star writer overnight. But if you’re like I was when I started Breath of the Titans, stumbling and bumbling your way blindly with no editor other than your sweet wife that you’ve forced to read your story at gun point six hundred times to the point where she remembers stuff better than you do now, it helps. You WILL have to pay attention as it catches Dialogue in it’s filter, but since it doesn’t change a thing, it’s not a problem.

*I am in NO WAY affiliated with Hemingway App, I just found it searching for resources for poor authors like myself.*

This is getting a little annoying….

So, I have a habit of wanting to talk with authors about whatever book review I’m going to post BEFORE I post it, just because I like them to know what’s going up on their book pages. I have now wasted my time reading three books, because all three authors have decided they didn’t like my honest review. I now have three reviews that aren’t getting posted because authors are afraid of a review that might sound a little negative.

I’m going to say this now, I’m done with that. I will still talk to authors about MY reviews before I post them, but they’re going up regardless of if you like the review or not. My pile is slowly working its way down, though the way I’m approaching it is changed from my dealings with others.

I tried doing them in the order received, but I’m not doing that anymore. I have read through a science fiction book that claimed to be the next coming of E.E. Smith, and it was like reading 50 shades of grey in space.

I stretched my genre’s a bit, and read a baseball book that seemed to tell the same story as Disney’s the Rookie.

I even tried on a fantasy that was just too full of plot holes and contradictions to even keep up with.

So now, I’m not going in any particular order. (Alysia, I have no idea how you keep up with the demand!) I’m going off of what I want to read. You can still submit your books, they’ll stay in my pile, and I will eventually read them. But it’s going to be on my terms, and what I want.

Okay, rant over. Now back to our normally scheduled programming! (Although, I’m starting to notice this kinda is my regularly scheduled programming….)

Chimera by N.J. Tanger AdditionalLinks

I loved this book. The author took the time to develop a beautiful world with characters I enjoyed. I thought the pace of Chimera was very good throughout, and by the end of the book, I cared about Theo, Meghan and Selena. Nathan Beauchamp does a wonderful job creating a world that is vivid to me. The character development was well done. Chimera is a great book for all ages. I will be glad to read the next books in the series. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*  5/5

Dancing on Glass by Susan Taylor Chehak

I was not sure what to think about my first gothic novel. The title of this book has significant meaning in the opening scene, where a wife commits suicide by falling through a skylight. Her death marks one of many tragedies that hurt the Craig and Von Vechten names. Bader Von Vechten’s marriage to Katherine Craig had appeared to bridge the gap between two families, but it’s soon destroyed when Bader has sex with a 15-year-old boy. This book is hard to follow at times, it changes narrative constantly, moves over a 25-year time frame, and has many characters, most of whom aren’t very interesting or likable. Yet the author draws you right into the story, regardless of the book’s flaws. * I received this book from the author in exchange for an honest review*  4/5

Never Forgotten by Kelly Risser

I really enjoyed this book. It caught my interest on page one until the end. The story felt real to me and the author knew how to draw in the audience. Meara is not your typical teenager; she goes through a lot of up and downs this book. Her mother is sick and her father is not around. My heart breaks for this character. Evan is a wonderful character and friend. The book has some interesting turns and twists. I would definitely recommend this book to my friends.  I enjoyed it very much.
