Let me give a warm introduction to Michael Schutz-Ryan.
My novel, Blood Vengeance, was release just under a month ago. Thank you in advance!
Blurb: A dead serial killer and his slain prey haunt the shabby San Francisco apartment where they died. When Brennan Cooper moves in upstairs, he fights to free the souls of the victims, trapped for all these years with their murderer.
Bio: Michael Schutz-Ryan was born and raised in the frozen tundra of Wisconsin. A lifelong diet of Ray Bradbury and Stephen King whet his appetite for the macabre. A lover of all things horror, he plumbs the depths of Netflix in search of scary movies. He lives in northern California with his husband and the enduring spirit of their cat, Catie.
1. What do you do to keep your spirits up through a bad review?
There’s no use dwelling on bad reviews. I have to forge ahead and keep writing. If the criticism is warranted, I can use that to make my work better.
2. What has been your greatest inspiration for writing your story?
The books I read are my inspiration: Stephen King, Peter Straub, and John Sandford are my current favorites. But at the beginning there was Ray Bradbury. Reading his gorgeous language, reveling in his singular imagery, made me want to create.
3. Are there any people you feel need a shout out for supporting you?
My mom and dad bought me my first typewriter…and my second when I wore out that first one! And it was my dad who introduced me to the magical world of used book stores. Without them, I wouldn’t be where I am today.
4. Has self-publishing taught you any lessons that you feel will help you in life?
Working with a small press is a hands-on experience. I used to think that when the writing was finished, my job ended. Not so true. Writing, like life, is a constant challenge. The rewards of both will only come if I continue to move forward.
and last, What’s your favorite color?
My favorite color is yellow, though I’m sympathetic toward orange. Is orange anyone’s favorite color?
